PhotoFiltre

PhotoFiltre is a free image editor for basic photo retouching and graphic work. It includes over 100 filters, selection tools, drawing tools, clone stamping, and batch processing. It opens JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and ICO files. Windows only. Note that this is the free version - it does not have layer support (layers require the paid PhotoFiltre Studio at around 35 EUR).

What it does

Open an image and adjust brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation through Image > Adjust. The filter library covers blur, sharpen, noise, stylize, texture, and deformation effects. Each filter has a preview before you apply it, so you can compare the result without committing.

Selection tools include rectangle, ellipse, polygon, lasso, and magic wand. Once you select an area, you can cut, copy, apply filters to just that region, or fill it with a color or pattern. The clone stamp (Ctrl+click to set source, then paint) copies pixels from one spot to another for removing blemishes or unwanted objects.

Batch processing (Tools > Batch Process) lets you resize, rotate, convert formats, and apply filters to entire folders of images at once. This is the feature that sets PhotoFiltre apart from Paint or similar basic editors.

Advantages

  • Completely free with no trial limits or watermarks
  • Over 100 built-in filters with live preview
  • Batch processing handles bulk resize and format conversion
  • Tiny install size and loads almost instantly

Drawbacks

  • No layer support in the free version
  • Cannot open RAW camera files
  • Windows only, no macOS or Linux builds
  • GIMP is free and far more capable for serious editing

Who it is for

PhotoFiltre is for people who need quick photo fixes without learning a full editor like GIMP. I keep it installed for batch resizing photos and applying simple filters - it handles those tasks faster than opening GIMP. If you need layers, either pay for PhotoFiltre Studio or use GIMP. For browser based editing without installing anything, Photopea covers most of what PhotoFiltre does and more.
