1 What this site is
FreewarePub.org is a curated directory of free Windows software. Every download link on the site points directly to the publisher's own installer, hosted on their own servers. No download manager, no bundled toolbars, no opt-out checkboxes for adware. Click the button, get the file the publisher actually shipped.
On top of the catalog we host a set of in-browser tools (PDF merging, image compression, QR codes, password generators). These run entirely on your device. No file you process leaves your machine.
2 Why it exists
The big free-software portals - the ones you remember from the 2000s - mostly turned into ad networks. Their "Download" buttons launch their own installer wrappers, which then offer you "optional" extras you do not want. Some of those extras have been classified as malware by antivirus vendors.
That is the gap FreewarePub fills. Every program is checked. Every link points to the official source. The catalog stays focused on software that is actually free and actually useful, not the long tail of abandonware that haunts older directories.
3 How it stays free
No ads. Nobody pays for placement. Nothing is bundled with the installers. The site runs on one small server and the bill is small enough to absorb out of pocket.
If that changes - say, donations or sponsorships from companies whose products we already recommend - we will tell you exactly who is paying, and the editorial wall stays where it is.
4 Editorial standards
A human writes every program description. Ratings come from readers, and we do not seed scores or massage user reviews to look better. When a program goes downhill (gets acquired, adds telemetry, starts shipping a launcher), the description gets rewritten and the recommendation goes with it. Sometimes that costs us a popular page. Fine.
