GIF Movie Gear
GIF Movie Gear was a dedicated GIF animation editor that let you create, edit, and optimize animated GIFs frame by frame. What it did
You built animations by importing frames from image files (BMP, JPEG, PNG, PSD) or extracting them from AVI video. Each frame could be edited for delay timing, position, and transparency color. The optimization engine reduced file sizes using palette reduction and dirty-rectangle encoding, which only stored pixels that changed between frames.
Beyond GIF output, the program exported to animated cursor format (ANI) for custom Windows cursors, ICO for icons, and AVI for video. It could also import existing GIFs for editing and re-optimization.
