Action!

Action! is a screen recording and game capture program from Mirillis, a Polish developer. It records gameplay, desktop activity, and live streams to Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. The program costs $29.95 for a lifetime license with a 30-day free trial.

What it does

For game recording, switch to the Games & Applications tab and press F9 to start and stop recording. Action! hooks into DirectX and OpenGL games directly, keeping CPU usage lower than generic screen capture. It supports hardware encoding through NVIDIA NVENC, so recording at 4K or even 8K stays smooth on supported GPUs.

Desktop recording works in three modes: full screen, selected region, or active window. Pick your mode in the Screen Recording tab and hit F9. The program shows a status bar with recording time and current FPS.

Live streaming connects to Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook through the Live Streaming tab. Enter your stream key, set your bitrate and resolution, and go. Webcam overlay is available with adjustable size and position. The chroma key feature removes a green or blue background from your webcam feed, giving you a floating head look without expensive equipment.

Screenshots work mid-recording with F12, saved as PNG or JPEG.

Advantages

  • Hardware-accelerated recording keeps game performance smooth
  • Records up to 8K resolution with NVENC encoding
  • Built-in streaming to Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook
  • Green screen removal for webcam without extra software

Drawbacks

  • Windows only, no macOS or Linux support
  • OBS Studio does most of the same things for free
  • Trial version adds a watermark to recordings
  • No built-in video editor for post-production

Who it is for

Action! targets gamers and streamers who want recording and streaming in one paid package. The hardware encoding support means less performance impact during gameplay. That said, OBS Studio is free and handles the same tasks, so the main reason to choose Action! is if you prefer its simpler interface over OBS's learning curve.
