SplitCam
SplitCam is a free virtual webcam application for Windows that lets you use a single physical camera in multiple programs at the same time. It creates a virtual video driver that applications like Skype, Zoom, Teams, OBS, and Google Meet can each access independently, while also adding effects, overlays, scene management, and screen capture to your video feed.
What it does
Select your webcam as a source in SplitCam, then choose "SplitCam Video Driver" as the camera in any video application. Each app receives the same feed without locking out the others. You can layer additional sources on top of your webcam: screen capture, static images, video files, text overlays, and web pages. Scenes let you arrange different source combinations and switch between them during a call or stream.
The effects panel offers background replacement, color filters, blur effects, and 3D face masks that track your head movement in real time. For streaming, SplitCam can broadcast simultaneously to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Kick, and other RTMP platforms. Application audio capture pulls sound from any running program and mixes it with your microphone.
Advantages
- Splits one webcam across unlimited applications simultaneously for free
- Background replacement and visual effects without needing a green screen
- Multistreaming to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and Kick from a single interface
- Application audio capture mixes sound from any program with your microphone
Drawbacks
- Windows only, no macOS or Linux version available
- Background removal quality depends heavily on lighting conditions
- Advanced users may find the effects limited compared to OBS with plugins
- The virtual driver occasionally needs reinstalling after major Windows updates
Who it is for
I use SplitCam when I need my webcam active in a video call and a streaming tool at the same time without buying a second camera. The scene switching and overlay features also make it practical for casual streamers who want basic production value without learning OBS. If you already run a full OBS setup with virtual camera plugins, SplitCam will feel redundant. But for anyone who just needs to share one webcam across multiple apps, it does exactly that.
