Revo Uninstaller

Revo Uninstaller is a program removal tool for Windows that goes beyond the standard uninstaller by scanning for and deleting leftover files, folders, and registry entries. Available in a free version with core functionality and a Pro version with forced uninstall, batch uninstall, and real time installation monitoring. Developed by VS Revo Group.

What it does

When you uninstall a program through Windows Settings or Control Panel, the built in uninstaller often leaves behind configuration files, log files, cached data, and orphaned registry keys. Revo Uninstaller runs the standard uninstaller first, then performs its own scan of the file system and Windows Registry to find everything the original uninstaller missed. You review the list of leftovers and choose what to delete.

The Forced Uninstall mode handles programs that are broken, partially installed, or missing from the Add/Remove Programs list entirely. You point Revo to the program's installation folder or type its name, and it locates and removes all associated traces. Hunter Mode puts a crosshair cursor on your screen that you can drag onto any open window or system tray icon to identify the program and uninstall it, stop its process, or remove it from startup.

Advantages

  • Finds and removes files and registry entries that standard uninstallers leave behind
  • Forced Uninstall handles broken programs that refuse to uninstall normally
  • Hunter Mode identifies unknown programs by pointing at their window
  • Creates a system restore point before each uninstall as a safety net

Drawbacks

  • Batch uninstall and real time install tracking are Pro only features
  • Aggressive registry cleaning can occasionally flag entries shared by other programs
  • Free version lacks 64 bit scanning, which can miss some leftovers on modern systems
  • Interface looks dated compared to newer alternatives like BCUninstaller

Who it is for

I use Revo Uninstaller whenever I test software and need to remove it cleanly afterward. The standard Windows uninstaller is fine for casual use, but if you install and remove programs frequently, the leftover accumulation is real and measurable. The free version covers most needs. If you manage multiple PCs or need to remove stubborn software regularly, the Pro version pays for itself with batch operations and deeper scanning. IObit Uninstaller and BCUninstaller are the main alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Revo Uninstaller better than Windows uninstall?
The standard Windows uninstaller only runs the program's built in removal process, which often leaves behind files and registry entries. Revo Uninstaller runs the standard process first, then scans for and removes what was left behind.
Is the free version of Revo Uninstaller enough?
For most users, yes. The free version includes standard uninstall with leftover scanning, forced uninstall, and Hunter Mode. The Pro version adds batch uninstall, real time install monitoring, and deeper 64 bit registry scanning.
Can Revo Uninstaller damage my system?
Revo creates a system restore point before each uninstall. The leftover scan shows you what it found so you can review before deleting. Sticking to the Safe or Moderate scan levels is recommended. The Advanced level can occasionally flag shared registry entries that other programs still need.
