Advanced IP Scanner
Advanced IP Scanner is a free network scanner for Windows from Famatech, the company behind the Radmin remote access tool. It scans your local network and lists every connected device with its IP address, MAC address, hostname, and network adapter vendor. The program is completely free.
What it does
Enter an IP range (or let it auto-detect your subnet) and click Scan. Within seconds you get a table of every device on the network: computers, phones, printers, and routers. Each entry shows the device name, IP, MAC address, and network adapter manufacturer, which helps identify unknown devices.
Expand any computer in the list and you see its shared folders. Double click to open one in Windows Explorer. Right click a device for remote options: RDP opens a Remote Desktop session and Shut Down powers off a remote Windows machine. Wake-on-LAN sends a magic packet to boot a powered off computer, provided its BIOS supports it.
Scan results export to CSV or HTML. The Favorites list lets you pin frequently accessed devices so they appear at the top on every scan. A portable mode runs from a USB drive without installing.
Advantages
- Fast scanning, finds all LAN devices in seconds
- Shows MAC vendor info, making it easy to identify unknown devices
- Remote shutdown and Wake-on-LAN built in at no cost
- Portable mode runs from USB without installation
Drawbacks
- Windows only, no macOS or Linux version
- Radmin integration is only useful if you already own Radmin
- No scheduled or automatic scanning, each scan is manual
- Cannot monitor network traffic or bandwidth, only discovers devices
Who it is for
I keep Advanced IP Scanner on every Windows machine I manage. It is the fastest way to answer "what is on this network right now?" without dedicated monitoring. I use it regularly to find printer IP addresses and wake up remote PCs. For home users and small office admins, it covers network discovery without any cost. If you need continuous monitoring or cross platform support, look at Angry IP Scanner or Lansweeper.
