PDF Password Remover

PDF Password Remover is a utility that strips password protection from PDF files. It removes owner passwords (which restrict printing, copying, editing and form filling) instantly without requiring the password, and can also remove open passwords if you supply them first.

What it does

You drag a PDF file into the program window and click Remove. If the file has an owner password that blocks printing or copying text, the program removes those restrictions immediately. The resulting PDF opens normally in any reader with all functions unlocked. For PDFs protected with an open password (the kind that blocks you from viewing the document at all), you need to enter the password once before the program can strip it.

Batch processing lets you add multiple PDFs at once and remove restrictions from all of them in a single operation. The program handles files encrypted with RC4 40-bit, RC4 128-bit, 128-bit AES and 256-bit AES. A status column shows what type of protection each file has before you process it. Output files are saved to a folder you specify in the settings.

I find this tool useful when I receive PDFs from clients or institutions that have printing or copying locked down. If you work with contracts, government forms or academic papers that come with unnecessary restrictions, this saves time compared to online PDF unlocker websites that have file size limits and privacy concerns. I would not recommend it if you just need to unlock one file once a year, since free online services handle that fine. But for regular use in an office where locked PDFs arrive frequently, it pays for itself quickly.
