Maxthon Browser

Maxthon Browser is a Chromium based web browser for Windows that bundles a password manager, note taking tool, RSS reader, and ad blocker into a single package. It syncs bookmarks and settings across devices through a Maxthon account, and supports Chrome extensions from the Web Store.

What it does

Maxthon includes an ad blocker powered by ABP (AdBlock Plus) that is active out of the box. You do not need to install a separate extension to remove banner ads and popups. The built in screenshot tool captures the visible area, a selected region, or an entire scrollable page, saving the result as a PNG file without requiring any additional software.

The Passkeeper password manager stores login credentials and fills them automatically on websites. Maxnote is a simple note taking feature that lets you clip text from web pages and save it to your Maxthon account, where it syncs across all your devices. The split screen mode displays two tabs side by side in one window, which is useful for comparing content or following a tutorial while working.

Maxthon also offers a night mode that darkens bright web pages to reduce eye strain, an RSS reader in the sidebar for following news feeds, a download manager with pause and resume support, and a resource sniffer that detects media files on web pages. The browser runs Chrome extensions, so you can install additional tools from the Chrome Web Store if the built in features are not enough.

Who it is for

I find Maxthon appealing for users who want a browser that works out of the box without installing a list of extensions for basic features like ad blocking and screenshots. If you value the convenience of everything being built in and synced to one account, it delivers that. However, I would not recommend switching from Chrome or Firefox if privacy is your primary concern, because Maxthon's sync requires routing your data through their cloud servers.
