doPDF

doPDF is a free PDF creator for Windows that installs as a virtual printer. Open any document, spreadsheet, webpage, or image, hit Print, select doPDF, and you get a PDF file. No watermarks, no page limits, no trial period. The program is lightweight and does exactly one thing.

What it does

After installation, doPDF appears in your list of printers. Anything you can print, you can convert to PDF. In Word, Excel, your browser, an image viewer, a CAD program, any application with a Print dialog works. Select doPDF as the printer, choose where to save the file, pick a quality preset (small file or high quality), and click OK. The resulting PDF preserves the formatting, fonts, and images from the original document.

Quality presets control the compression level of embedded images. The Small setting produces compact files suitable for email attachments, while High keeps images at full resolution for printing. You can set custom page sizes beyond standard A4 and Letter formats, choose portrait or landscape orientation, and append pages to an existing PDF instead of creating a new file each time. Password protection lets you lock the output PDF so it requires a password to open. There is no editing, merging, or annotation. doPDF creates PDFs from the print dialog and nothing else.

Who it is for

I recommend doPDF to users on older Windows systems that lack the built in Microsoft Print to PDF feature, or to anyone who wants the extra control over image quality and the ability to append pages to existing files. If you are on Windows 10 or 11, the built in PDF printer handles simple conversions without any installation. For anything beyond creation, like editing or merging PDFs, you will need a different tool such as PDF24 Creator or PDFsam. doPDF stays in its lane and does its one job reliably.
